The Perth-Andover Fire Department is a group made up of 23 volunteers serving the community of Perth-Andover. They had requirements that the town wasn’t able to provide, so they looked to the community of Grand-Falls, who was running a small 50/50 lottery and decided to give it a try.

Hey

Long time no post! Well I am sorry for that, I dropped off the Scene for a while when my D90 Crapped out on me a few years ago. Then I had my friends 5D MkII for a few weeks when I shot the Merc Armour. And most recent… Summer Ahhh Summer

Whelp!~

Im back and going to post atleast once a week maybe more.

Why?

Because I am now attending New Brunswick College of Craft and Design. Taking their full-time Photography Diploma. As a result of this I’ll have more work to show you aswell as it is part of one of my classes to have a regularly updated blog.

So dont be afraid to follow me on facebook and twitter in the mean time for mini updates.

It’s good to be back

Zombie Eradication Response Team

I belong to Z.E.R.T.  and have been an active member for over a year.

ZERT

Z.E.R.T. is an organization that uses “Zombie” as a metaphor for any natural or man-made disasters that will occur in our lives; Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, criminal attacks or any type of situation where being prepared, trained and most importantly, armed with the proper mindset is required to see you and your family through to safety”

So over a year ago I joined a little organization called Z.E.R.T. AKA Zombie Eradication Response Team.  Basically Boy Scouts for adult there are (as of this post) over 6000 members worldwide in almost 50 countries. I belong to the Eastern Canada Squadron. ‘ Zulu Charlie, and thus my call sign is ZC2632, i am the 2632nd member to Join Z.E.R.T. and my area is ZC.

Z.E.R.T. uses real Tier 1 and Special Forces Operators and trainers to train Civilians on Proper Firearms and Survival training so that they can survive when a ‘Zombie’ strikes.

Many members are either Active Service or Ex-Military as well as Police, Fire, Paramedic but not limited to anyone who wants to train and learn.

Fireworks!

First off, you are going to need a Tripod or some kind of Stabilization. Because we are going to use Long exposures (see previous Blog post), that means we are going to let the camera ‘see’ the action for a longer period of time, I’d say between 3 and 5 seconds will give you the best results with an aperture of F9-F11.
You’re going to want to turn off the Flash, and if you can turn off Auto Focus after you get the focus set on the right spot. Another thing is, your going to want your Film or ISO sensitivity under 400 ISO so you can get rich colours and avoid Blowing out the image.

Here are my results from Canada Day

Long Exposure

When shooting at night you are usually with one big problem, Next-to-no-light.
there are a number of ways around this.

Boost the ISO, Use a Flash, Open the Iris/Aperture, or Set a Longer Exposure.
If you use the one of or all of the first 3 you’re probably wanting to capture a single moment in time. With Long Exposures you’re capturing many moments in time with one photo, or you don’t want to use a flash to illuminate your subject. Long Exposures capture ‘more’ of what is going on in front of the camera. What you will need is a Tripod, a camera with a Manual or a Shutter priority setting and patience. Depending on what you want to do, there are a number of different effects that can be achieved using long exposures.

The following are some examples.
All of these have been tweaked in Photoshop.

You can see in this photo you can see that every thing is still but you see the Light Streaks of passing cars.

20sec f9.5 ISO50

You can get some cool effects with smoke or clouds.

15sec f9.5 ISO50

For this one I let my Tilt Drift during my shot.

30 Seconds F19 ISO50

And dont forget light painting, you’ll need a Flashlight. Sparklers and other lights work too.

Harbour Con-Fusion – Hit’n The Streetz

Saturday 8 friends took to the streets with signs and a light saber to promote a new convention in the city. One of the Organizers of Harbour con Funsion, Emerson Rankine says the con isn’t just for anime, it will also feature Video Games, Fantasy and every thing in its Geek-y-ness. The Convention will be held July 28th and 29th at the Holiday Inn Express in the City’s north end. This year is going to be low-key but they hope to grow in the coming years.
